Allyson Hollingsworth believes that the themes at the core of her artistic practice – memory, loss, beauty, and decay – come from growing up in a military family. She moved every two to three years from infancy through high school, living all over the United States and six years (and three places) in Germany. A strong sense of the impermanence of life, combined with a deep interest in history and culture gained from her travels in Europe, informs her work to this day. Home was wherever her books were, and literature remains a cornerstone of inspiration for her art.
Allyson Hollingsworth received an MFA from California Institute of the Arts, and a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design. Her artwork can be seen in the movie Shopgirl. She currently lives and works in Oakland, CA.
